Clean Harbors has a reputation as a world-class hazardous waste management company. This reputation is founded, in part, on its comprehensive environmental management program.
The Lambton Facility has three main waste treatment licences, called "certificates of approval," issued by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment for the following functions:
The incinerator license lets the unit treat and destroy various liquid and emulsified hazardous waste, including acids, alkalis, metal finishing wastes, chemical fertilizer wastes, phosphates, oily water, waste oils, organic solvents, plastic resins, amines, glycols, phenols, pigments, paints, printing inks, adhesives, pesticides, herbicides, detergents, cleaners, soap and pharmaceutical and cosmetics by-products.
The secure landfill licence lets Lambton receive waste in solid form, too. These wastes include similar elements as those identified in liquid and emulsified waste.
The facility does not accept radioactive, pathological, polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB), compressed gas, or explosive waste.
The Ministry of Environment (MOE) and Clean Harbors Lambton Facility have a professional working relationship where the goal for both organizations is compliance with Ministry standards and regulations.
A dedicated MOE Provincial Officer has 24-hour access to all areas of the site, conducting random site audits. Site managers meet weekly with MOE officials to review day-to-day operations and discuss regulatory issues. In addition, weekly and monthly reports are provided to the Ministry detailing waste volumes processed, water discharge volumes and waste manifest documentation.
Our environmental compliance performance has a direct and positive impact on both our customer and community confidence. As such, the Lambton Facility is dedicated to continuous improvement in all facets of its business to ensure that our environmental performance and the health and safety of our employees are maintained at a high standard.
