Every year, from April to October, Lambton County residents pull out their unused cleaners, garden chemicals, dead batteries and half-used cans of paint, and bring them to the Clean Harbors Lambton Facility. In conjunction with the County of Lambton, the household hazardous waste (HHW) collection depot operates on the last Saturday of the month from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the months of March, April, May, June, September and October. There is no cost to the public for this service.

Clean Harbors has been managing the county's HHW collection depot since 1993. However, the site's efforts to encourage local residents to manage their household hazardous wastes responsibly dates back to 1986. Working in cooperation with the Lambton Industrial Society (now called the Sarnia Lambton Environmental Association) and Lambton College, the site helped introduce the concept of household hazardous waste management to local residents by sponsoring an annual collection day. The event became so popular that it was taken over by Lambton County and transformed into a seasonal service.
Materials collected are sorted for recycling, proper treatment and disposal. Each year, the facility invites local service organizations to help at the depot, in return for company donations towards community betterment projects.
Most waste household chemicals that are labelled corrosive, toxic, reactive or flammable will be accepted. Household waste products brought to the HHW depot include: paints, batteries, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, sharps, solvents, pool chemicals and oils. Wastes generated from commercial operations cannot be accepted at the depot.
The depot is open to Lambton County residents, who can check their local paper for ads with current dates and times. The HHW depot is located at Clean Harbors' Lambton Facility, at the corner of Telfer Road and Petrolia Line between Corunna and Petrolia. Clean Harbors has positioned itself as the leader of household hazardous waste (HHW) management programs in North America, coordinating an average of 45 HHW events per weekend. During the height of the HHW season that average climbs to over 60 events for a period of 24-32 weekends per year.
In 2006, Clean Harbors successfully executed over 1,500 HHW collections, diverting almost 24 million kg of material that would otherwise have gone to municipal non-hazardous landfills. This total includes close to 1.4 million kg of miscellaneous batteries and over 2.5 million kg of latex paint.
