Marine Booming & Line Handling

Clean Harbors provides Marine Booming and Line Handling Services at ports throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

Booming Services

Clean Harbors provides routine booming services for ships or barges. Vessels are boomed off while at dock when loading or off-loading.  Ships can also be boomed off at anchorage while one vessel pumps fuel to another.

  • Capabilities in ports across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico
  • Certified vessel operators and crews
  • Trained and certified Persons in Charge (PIC) for transfer operations
  • Average most probable discharge (AMPD) coverage for lightering operations

Line Handling

Clean Harbors provides line handling on the waterfront to shipping agents, port facilities, oil terminals, and vessel owners.  We either tie-off or let go the lines from the vessel at the dock.

Safety is our Top Priority

Strict work procedures are always followed during boom deployment and retrieval, boom watches, transfer, loading/off-loading or spill related work on open decks and shoreline spill clean up of rivers, ponds and oceans.

Constant Shoreline Communication

Assigned Clean Harbors safety watch personnel maintain shoreline communication at all times. Systems and procedures for contacting marine rescue personnel are well established, and we are in constant communication with ships, vessels, tug boats and docks during all booming projects.

Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO)

Under the U.S. Coast Guard’s (OSRO) Classification Program, Clean Harbors holds Captain of the Port ratings for Facilities and Vessels in ports throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico.  Our abilities include the deployment of hard boom and recovery of product on land and water (skimming, pumps, vacuum trucks), and temporary storage and disposal.  Many coastal Clean Harbors service centers hold Coast Guard approved Marine Operations Manuals for ship-to-shore transfers of oily waste and cargo.
