Laboratory Moves

Whether one laboratory, hazardous material stockrooms, or an entire research building needs to be moved across the state or internationally, Clean Harbors Laboratory Move Services ensure the move is completed quickly, efficiently, and in full compliance with all federal, state, and international regulations.  Our chemists package the chemicals intended to be moved in the same manner as chemicals intended for disposal, following the same regulations and adhering to the same health and safety procedures.

Packing and Unpacking Chemicals

To ensure that chemicals are delivered to the appropriate location and to make unpacking easier, chemicals can be packaged separately according to room or laboratory number. Clean Harbors will unpack the chemicals if requested or leave the containers on site to be unpacked at a later date and return for the materials.

Moving Process

All materials utilized during the move are supplied.  Chemicals are packaged in DOT or TDG approved containers using special cushioning material to minimize the risk of damaged materials during transport.  Coolers are utilized to keep refrigerated items cold or refrigerated transport can be arranged for large volumes of temperature sensitive materials.

We can manage the movement of difficult items such as refrigerators and cylinder stations, which require extensive coordination between the customer’s environmental health and safety staff, researchers, the moving companies, and Clean Harbors.

Identification of Potential Decontamination Areas

As part of our initial laboratory moving services site walk, Clean Harbors will help to identify potential decontamination areas that may need to be addressed as well, including areas such as fume hoods, sink traps, drainage pipes, and storage tanks.
