Providing Comprehensive Environmental Services for North America
Whether it is a plant turnaround, routine maintenance or an emergency, Clean Harbors provides rapid, thorough cleaning-service solutions to steel mills, mines and smelters throughout North America. We are skilled at managing hazardous, non-hazardous, wet and dry materials.
Clean Harbors has the experience, resources, personnel and equipment to clean tanks of all sizes and with all contents, including slurry oil and slop oil tanks and wastewater treatment tanks in any plant environment from integrated or mini mills, to aluminum and copper smelting and refining operations.
Waste minimization technologies including centrifuges, filter presses and thermal treatment units are mobilized to your site to process slurry oil, slop oil, wastewater treatment tank and surface impoundment wastes. Clean Harbors can substantially reduce your costs for transportation and disposal of tank or surface impoundment waste.
In mills, mines, and smelting/refining facilities, Clean Harbors collects and transports wet or dry hazardous and non-hazardous materials, handling sumps, tanks, containment areas, oil skimmings, sludge, wastewater, leachate, spent coolants, spills, and pickle liquor from steel finishing operations. Stainless steel, carbon steel, dry and liquid vacuum units are provided on a routine or an emergency basis for general plant maintenance and planned projects, or for a spill or product release.
Air Moving Services collect solid industrial wastes and salvageable materials from hazardous or difficult-to-reach areas such as electric arc furnaces and baghouse systems, mold foundries, rolling mills, and coke ovens. Capabilities include handling a wide range of materials, wet or dry, hazardous or non-hazardous, with a consistency ranging from fine powder to chunks of slag.
Clean Harbors also provides vessel-to-vessel transfer capabilities, allowing for enhanced recovery of reusable materials instead of treating the material as waste and incurring disposal fees. Substances handled include catalysts, lime, oil and hydrocarbon residuals, hardened coal, coke, and slag materials.
As process piping becomes clogged with residue, Clean Harbors cleans and removes the most difficult materials utilizing jet rodding and other water jetting and blasting methods. Service can be performed without confined space entry of the system. We clear obstructions from underground pipes, process lines, and sewer systems, and restore the lines to original flow capacity. Our methods are effective on a variety of materials including hardened coal, coke, and slag materials, sand impacted sewer lines, and other debris.
Clean Harbors’ advanced hydro jetting and blasting (high pressure washing) applications, which utilize media at varying pressures and flow rates, cost-effectively clean surfaces, process equipment, heat exchanger bundles, channel heads, valves, metal, and other industrial vessels. Hydro jetting can be applied to virtually every process configuration to remove foulants and other built-up materials generated in the steel industry from plating lines, scrubbers, ovens, and pickling operations.
Compared to mechanical cleaning methods, chemical cleaning processes can reduce downtime and exposure to toxic materials and environmental hazards, while helping the affected unit run more efficiently. Our chemical cleaning technologies remove residual oils, corrosion, water hardness deposits and other foulants from process equipment without creating surface damage caused by traditional cleaning media.
