Providing Comprehensive Environmental Services for North America
With company-owned and operated waste-management facilities in the U.S. and Canada that cover a broad range of disposal technologies, Clean Harbors can safely and efficiently dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous liquids, solids and sludge waste streams associated with all sectors of the oil and gas industry. Company owned disposal capabilities include incineration, landfill, wastewater treatment, fuel blending, and recycling.
Clean Harbors manages F037/F038 (DAF) Dissolved Air Flotation waste from the petroleum refining industry. We also manage slop oil emulsions; spent hydrotreating catalyst; spent hydrorefining catalyst; heat exchanger bundle cleaning sludge; API separator sludge; tank bottoms (leaded) / crude oil storage tank sediment; and clarified slurry oil tank sediment and in-line filter / separation solids.
Clean Harbors provides the disposal of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) and Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (TENORM) preent in process water, drilling mud, or in materials concentrated in pipes, storage tanks, or other extraction equipment. The contamination may also be present in mineral scale, sludge, or evaporation ponds or pits. Oil and gas production and processing operations sometimes cause NORM to accumulate at elevated concentrations in by product waste streams.
Clean Harbors' Deer Trail, Colorado facility is a fully permitted Subtitle C landfill authorized to treat, store and dispose of a wide variety of hazardous and industrial wastes including RCRA, TCSA (megarule) and debris for encapsulation. Clean Harbors' Buttonwillow, California facility is also a fully permitted Subtitle C landfill authorized to treat, store, and dispose of a large number of RCRA hazardous wastes, California hazardous waste, and non-hazardous waste for stabilization treatment, solidification, and landfill.
The facilities are also able to accept NORM and TENORM wastes containing radionuclides (in the decay series of U-238, U-235 and Th-232) up to 2000 pCi/gram for Deer Trail and up to 1800 pCi/gram for Buttonwillow.
Clean Harbors’ Colfax, Louisiana thermal treatment facility provides risk-free management of explosives and reactive wastes stemming from oil field services including shape charges, jet perforation guns, detonators, and cartridges. Our Colfax facility is the only commercial operation in the U.S. with a RCRA Part B, Subpart X permit.
